Liquidarium, Shepparton Art Museum, 2022

14 May to 30 October

In conceptualising the Liquidarium project I wanted to create an installation environment where kids and other audiences felt invited to imagine a wetland or a billabong from the perspective of a frog perhaps or of a Rakali.

SAM is located on Yorta Yorta country, right on the doorsteps of Lake Victoria and not very far from the mighty Goulburn river. While to some degree the project takes its visual cues from the dioramas familiar from Natural History Museums, it aims to be a 3D fantasy accompanied by recorded wetland sounds. It is not illustrative of real botanies found around Victoria Lake outside SAM but my creative interpretation of those surrounds.

With this work my ambition is to encourage engagement and exploration of complex and intriguing ecological niches of the amazing biosphere found right outside the museum.
